The station wagons have been replaced by minivans like the Dodge Caravan, Ford Freestar, Chevy Uplander & the Pontiac Montana.

Try a mini-van. They have more power, and lots of room!

Most station wagon car have been replaced by SUV, as you said. But they are still exist. Some companies produce that kind of vehicles, like BMW. So, if you want a reliable station wagon, choose BMW 330i station wagon (it is RWD).

In the US Station Wagons classified as cars because they were built on a car platform. Since they were classified as cars they needed to meet strict smog regulations. Those regulations made it difficult to build such big vehicles and still be competitive. So the automakers did what made sense. They started building what they called SUV's which were built on Truck platforms. Frame on chassis. These were classified as trucks and the automakers didn't need to meet the strict smog regulations that were required for cars. Now you'll see automakers calling everything SUV's so they don't have to meet smog regulations, yet they are now building them on car chassis again. These car chassis SUVs are really the stationwagon. Here's a small list of some to look at:Chrysler PacificaFord FreestarToyota MatrixPontiac VibePontiac TorrentChevrolet EquinoxHonda PilotToyota HighlanderAll of them are built on car chassis and thus should be classified as stationwagons and if the government had any sense, make them pass smog regulations for cars not trucks.

Try a Dodge Magnum. To answer your question, the Minivan Craze followed by the SUV Craze effectively killed of the station wagon. If you can spare a bit more money, try the Volvo V70 without the AWD- they are well equipped and last forever.
