Given that these cars are more expensive, could be SGD 10,000 more than their non-hyrid counterparts having similar specs.

I do not think they are worth the money at this time. The only benefit is they are better for the environment but it will cost you. I would wait until they become more of a value.

Probably not worth it at this time. At least that's my opinion and why I'm waiting until they improve the technology to get mileage more in the 50- 75 per gallon range.

I've read they are not cheaper. You use less gas but it costs you to charge it.

No, it is not worth it. In actual road tests, a civic get about 7 mpg less than a Prius. So, if you drive 96,000 miles in both cars, your gas (assuming $3/ gallon) will cost $3,734 more in the civic. But, an equally equipped prius will cost about $4,000 more to buy so you will not have saved anything. And because you need to replace the battery in the prius at around 100,000 miles, you will not reach the break-even point any time soon. In conclusion, if you want to emit less carbon, the prius is great. If you want to save money, go with the civic.

They are excellent choices both from a personal financial standpoint and from a quality-of-life standpoint. They're very economical to run, they're reliable and they have a high resale value. You've also heard enough about how good they are for the environment, so I won't belabor that point.

You first need to do some direct comparisons, with features, engine size, and fuel standards.Mind you I am going to give you an example here so please do not take my answer as the final authority as you are the one making your future automobile decisions.I am going to compare the Ford Escape.Ford Escape (Gas Only):Starting Price = $19,770 Gas Mileage = 20 city / 26 Hwyand lets say you pay it off after 60 months and only drove 60,000 miles60,000 miles divided by 23 miles per gallon(avg miles per gallon for this vehicle) has you purchasing 2,608.69 gallons of gas for the 5 years of the vehicle2,608.69 gallons of gas @ $3.25 per gallon = $8,468.24 in total fuel costs for 5 years.TOTAL 5 YEAR COST OF CAR + FUEL ONLY = $28,248.24Ford Escape (Hybrid)Starting Price = $26,265Gas Mileage = 34 city / 30 HwySame numbers from above = 5 years to payoff and 60,000 for 5 years worth of miles.60,000 divided by 32 miles per gallon (avg for this vehicle) =1,875 gallons of gas purchased in 5 years.1,875 gallons @ $3.25 per gallon = $ 6,093.75Total 5 year cost for Car and Gas ONLY = $32,358.75So when Comparing the SAME Vehicle from Ford this is what I getFord Escape Gas =$28,248.24 for 5 yearsFord Escape Hybrid =$32,358.75 for 5 yearsWith this information which vechicle is more cost effective?
